Setting Up Thunderbird

Abstract
Guidance on setting up a fresh thunderbird installation.
Introduction
This is one of a series of posts where I document some configurations for various software that I use. This post, which is meant for personal reference, documents email configurations for Thunderbird.
QQ Mail / Foxmail
- Incoming mail server:
imap.qq.com:993, use SSL/TLS for connection security - Outgoing mail server:
smtp.qq.com:465, use SSL/TLS for connection security - User name:
user(for qq.com) or[email protected](for foxmail.com) - Password: login to QQ mail web service, then go to “settings” - “account”, click “generate authorization key”, and use that key as password.
SYSU Mail
- Incoming mail server:
imap.exmail.qq.com:993, use SSL/TLS for connection security - Outgoing mail server:
smtp.exmail.qq.com:465, use SSL/TLS for connection security - User name:
[email protected] - Password: (user password)
Chinatelecom Mail
- Incoming mail server:
imap.chinatelecom.cn:993, use SSL/TLS for connection security - Outgoing mail server:
smtp.chinatelecom.cn:465, use SSL/TLS for connection security - User name:
[email protected] - Password: login to Chinatelecom mail web service, then go to “settings” - “password management”, click “dedicated password for client”, and use that as password.
Notes Regarding Changing Saved Passwords
To change the saved password of an existing account, open Thunderbird and go to “Settings” - “Privacy & Security” - “Passwords”, then make and apply the change.
